Live Long or Die Happy

The Expanding Circle, a vegan food blog, shared a link to the site “This is why you’re fat.” It is a picture blog of foods that are high in fat, calories, grease, sugar, oh basically anything that is actually bad for you. I’ve been looking through the blog, and now I am hungry. No, not hungry. Gluttonous. No, not gluttonous. Something. I don’t know. Why am I a veggie? All of it looks delicious (except for the bacon/chocolate combos, yuck).

One time I read somewhere (I think in a magazine), there was something about two restaurants next to each other where one served this type of food (the heart attack inducing kind) while the other was a healthy type restaurant. The sign in the latter said something like, “Eat here, live longer.” The sign in the former said, “Eat here, die happy.”

I thought it was pretty funny and used to be of the same opinion, but how do you die happy when you are bogged down with diseases and other health problems and can’t enjoy the same type of energy and lifestyle as those who are trying to live longer? Then again, maybe it’s like smoking; it’s really good until it goes bad, but since everyone has different priorities, the good part is worth the bad. Actually, that’s not true. No one gets lung cancer and says, “Well, it was worth it.” So I don’t really see anybody getting heart disease from a five pound cheeseburger and then saying, “Yum. That was sooo worth–” Yeah, they can’t even finish the sentence because they got a fucking heart attack.

But giving into temptation once in a while is worth it and probably won’t kill you. Everything in moderation, right?
