Movies, Movies, Movies

For the past couple of years I have been keeping track of the movies I watch complete with dates and ratings. That way at the end of the year I can look back and decide which ones were the best. Well, already in 2009 I have three movies on my list. None of them are new movies, but they have all been very good, so I thought I’d share.

My roommate and I watched Vantage Point on New Year’s Day. It’s made up of a series of different views of the same event. After the fourth view we were both like, omg, how many more are there?? The very last one of course tied everything together and was the most exciting and made the movie very good. I gave the movie 3.5/5 stars. I wouldn’t watch it again, but it’s worth watching once. I really like that it had a different spin on the way it told the story much like Memento had…but it is far from being on the same level as Memento, which is on my top ten list of movies everyone must watch.

Next up is Grandma’s Boy. A few of my guy friends keep mentioning it and referencing it, and I kept saying I needed to see it, so I knew what the fuck they were talking about. Well, I finally did, and that shit is hilarious. It has the best masturbation scene I’ve seen since…um…ok, sitting here trying to rack my brain of masturbation scenes in movies is very weird. Anyway, it’s really funny. I gave it 4/5 stars. It’s a Happy Madison production, so of course it’s going to be good. Although, you have to find really crude and stupid humour funny, which I do. If you don’t, nevermind. Moving on…

Lastly I watched Persepolis. It wasn’t at all like I expected. I actually learned a lot from the movie. Visually it is amazing, and I like that it had some funny moments mixed in with the heavy subject matter. It’s interesting how an animated movie can be so human. The movie is in French, but I have never been one to be annoyed by subtitles, although I did try to learn Japanese just so I could watch anime without having to read subtitles, but that’s something else entirely. I also gave this one 4/5 stars.

I seem to be on a roll of good movies. Any recommendations?
