Holiday Secrets

Last night I watched Love Actually with my friend. We both felt the need to watch it since it’s the holidays. At some point towards the end, I said to her, “I don’t understand why people feel the need to use Xmas as an excuse to say how they feel. I mean, it’s Xmas. Isn’t that really something for Valentine’s Day?” In the movie, you have a lot of, “Because it’s Xmas…” going on. Because Xmas is a good reason to express your love for your best friend’s wife? Or ask a woman you’ve known for a month to marry you? I will say that I do think it’s an appropriate time to run through an airport just to say goodbye to the one you love. Duh.

I said before that I do think there should be a National Tell a Secret Day, but I really don’t think that day should be Xmas. Xmas is more of a day to reinforce what people already know (“I love you, mom.”) and let them enjoy their blissful ignorance by keeping your burning secrets to yourself. At least wait until New Year’s Eve when everyone is good and drunk and the next day you can be all, “Oh, that was last year. You should really be over it by now. I know I am.” It’s always a good idea to start the new year off with a lie.

P.S. We also went to the Melting Pot for the first time. Very disappointing. Stick with the cheese and perhaps a dessert. The entrees just aren’t worth it.

P.P.S. Happy Winter Solstice!
